ITCC Ends Season with a Tense Lose
ITCC 179/9 in 35 Overs (Rama-54, Rajeev-48, Raj-22, Babu-15) Serendip 180/8 in 33.2 Overs (Dhanuka 38, Buddika 50 N.O, Bala- 3/38)
When one of the most accomplished batting performances from an ITCC lineup was followed by one of its most dismal bowling performances, ITCCs winning streak came to a sudden halt. For once the wonderful start provided by run machine Rama (57 of 72) was completely utilized as ITCC built through their captain (48 of 44) and cameos from Uday (22 of 42) and Babu (14 of 25). A familiar collapse toward the end followed, but by then ITCC had raked up a seemingly winning total (179 of 35), with Serendip left to tackle a strong bowling unit and a tricky wicket.
Continuing their history of not playing as a team, ITCCs bowling unit refused to continue to good work from the batters. The bowling performance was ordinary to say the least as close to 60 wides were conceded. (Corresponding figure for serendip was around 25). Although Bala produced a brilliant comeback spell to pull ITCC back into it, the irresistible Buddika produced a match winning 50 to lift the sinking Serendip from the lows of 120/6 to an astonishing win.
Although a few decisions and some dropped catches would have changed the story at the end, ITCC would feel this as a chance lost to put one across the strong Serendip outfit. But forgetting about the loss for a second there was a noticeable improvement in the overall performance graph of the team moving up in the right direction with the right spirit.
