ITCC Vs YCAC on April 27th 2008 - A Match Report

Sunday 27 April, 2008

A whirlwind 64 from just 50 balls from Abhishek Sharda, failed to save ITCC from crashing to their first defeat in the KCL championships at YCAC grounds today.

Earlier on a slow pitch, where the ball kept low, YCAC overcame a middle order collapse to setup an imposing 237/7 in the allotted 40 overs. An inspirational Rajeev, bowling his brand of dipping incutters, stuck thrice in one over to reduce YCAC to a precarious 93/5 in 20 overs. But a brilliant rearguard effort from YCAC Middle order duo, Prashant and Farhan ensured ITCC had a stiff target to chase later in the day. ITCC didn’t help their cause as Farhan was dropped when the total was on 94 at square leg, and prashant had his slice of luck when he was dropped on the mid wicket boundary with the total on 148. Among these fielding flaws, Sakthi Sans effort in the deep to get rid off a well set Kamran, and Murali’s effort to hold onto a skier from Prashant, when he was cutting loose, stood out.

ITCC started the chase in confident mood, with Biju timing the ball to perfection to find the Gaps. Disaster stuck in the 4th over when Abraham was beaten by the one which bounced a little lower than his liking and was out caught behind. ITCC never recovered from the early jolt as Vice captain Anil NT, chasing a wide one, thick edged an intended drive to Slip. Captain Sakthi and Biju then played well within themselves to put on 46 runs for the 4th wicket. With the Score on 58, Biju was bowled playing back to an incoming delivery which kept a tad low. Rajeev, deceived in flight, was brilliantly stumped in the same over for naught. Abhishek was then called on to revive the flagging fortunes of his team, which he did brilliantly, but a lack of support from the other end, and constantly increasing asking rate eventually curtailed his efforts.

With their next match coming up in a fortnight against IECC, ITCC in their first ever match had given a good account of themselves, with a couple of outstanding individual efforts and some great team spirit on display.
