In this Group D match, the defending champions HCL clashed with tournament sponsors SBI led by Prathyush. SBI won the toss and decided to bowl first. Some indifferent bowling from SBI gave enough scoring opportunuties to the HCL batsmen. Their captain Nadeem took most of it gleefully and topscored with 31. HCL finished with Round Robin league's top score of 91.
It was a tall order for the rather inexperienced SBI batting line up. Their only hope was Manish it seemed. But Naveen batted solidly top scoring with 30 with 4 fours and SBI surprised with a spirited batting performance scoring their highest total for the tournament, 66 but in the end got beaten convincingly by 25 runs.
HCL 91/7 in 10 overs (Nadeem 31, Ajay 27)
SBI 66/5 in 10 overs (Naveen 30, Arun 2/13)
L&T vs Oracle - Group B match
In an exciting match with fortunes ebbed and flowed for both sides, finally a brilliant boundary under pressure by Swami gifted a favourable result for Oracle in Group B, supposedly the group of death. Only their Captain Jay showed some urgency belting a huge six, the only one in the match. L&T finished their innings at 56/9
In reply, Oracle had a sedate but solid opening partnership of 29 and looked like cruising for a comfortable win. But a middle order collapse stalled the chase and the asking rate climbed up. And at one stage L&T were strong favourites and with 7 needed from 4 balls, Swami struck the decisive blow to help Oracle win by 5 wkts.
L&T 56/9 in 10 overs (Jay Kumar 15, Muzzu 3/12)
Oracle 57/5 in 9.5 overs (Rahul 18, Nandha 1/6)
