ITCC Vs IECC at Moriya on July 31st , 20100
It was a good game yesterday. But really disappointed that we could not finish it off. We played 60% of the game well. The opening and ending part of the match is where we lost it. At one time, they were in a very strong position with the score around 130 plus for loss of 1 or 2 wkts. Ragesh came in and bowled a brilliant spell and that put the brakes and we could restrict them to 193. Well bowled Ragesh. And the way Varun and Gijo started, it was one of the best opening stands we had for some time. Really enjoyed the opening stand and it was unfortunate but a silly mistake, that Gijo got run out. I think these are small things which we need to think and take care of when we are out in the middle batting or bowling. The Engineers were under the hammer and were looking clueless and not sure what to do. Getting run out is the worst way to give them a break. Nevertheless, a brilliant cameo from Gijo and more than anyone else, he himself should feel gutted to squander such a great chance to score. Varun was oozing class and a real treat to watch. At the half way mark during drinks break, we were at 97/3 needing another 97 in 15 overs with 7 wkts in hand. We should have done that. It was really a missed opportunity. When Pramod was batting, the chase was on and going according to the plan. Once he got out, we lost momentum. On hindsight, I thought, I should have taken care of that a bit earlier than I tried. But with Abraham still to bat, my thinking was to not to get out and to bring the target to 40 runs in last 5 overs. Still I feel, if Abraham could have continued, we would have won this. As Abraham said later, this was an opportunity to really challenge oneself to get the job done. We failed this time, but it is another lesson in our development as a team.
